This is a beautiful excursion, during which we will enjoy wonderful natural panoramas.
The excursion will begin at Piano Provenzana, a tourist resort on the north side of Mount Etna, which was destroyed by the 2002 eruption, that we are going to cross.
Then we will reach the path of Monte Nero and the craters of 1923. The lava flow that reached Linguaglossa, a town located on the north side of Mount Etna, started from these craters.
Immediately after, we will cross the Timpa Rossa beech forest, which in the autumn turns red, until we reach the rope or pahoehoe lavas.
These lavas are very fluid and belong to the important eruptions which lasted 10 years (from 1614 to 1624), and which covered an area of about 21 km².
A billion cubic metres of lava were erupted.
Walking on these lavas, we will reach one of the most beautiful and long caves of Mount Etna, the Grotta dei Lamponi.
This interesting cave is located at 1,745 a.s.l. and is 700 metres long.
For people in good physical condition with hiking experience.
Good physical preparation is required, and no cardiological, respiratory, and hypertensive problems.
Note: We will also visit a Volcanic Cave.
For the safety of hikers, the guide can modify the excursion if adverse weather and volcanic conditions should occur, or for any other reason that could compromise the success of the excursion.
